Facebook and the popular slogan, “Keep Calm and Carry On,” were the focus of undergraduate research completed by two communication students who presented their findings at Keene State College’s 2014 Academic Excellence Conference on Saturday, April 5.

Lauren Piccolino gave an oral presentation titled, “True Life, I’m Addicted to Facebook: The Popularity of Facebook on College Students’ Lives.” Her faculty mentor was Dr. Chitra Akkoor.

Kelsey Schild presented a poster titled, “Keep Calm: A Rhetorical Study of a Persuasive Slogan.” Her faculty mentor was Dr. Jamie Landau.

Hands-on learning, such as undergraduate research, helps students apply what they learn in the classroom to the world around them. In the case of the research projects completed by Lauren and Kelsey, these students are now more prepared for future careers in media.
