Service Learning and Internships – For Students

Students in service-learning classes and internships benefit academically, professionally, and personally. These experiential learning opportunities are important to future success and can help:

  • USDA studentIncrease your understanding of course topics and your areas of study
  • Develop or enhance your skills, especially in the areas of communication, teamwork, leadership, and civic participation
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Test out your interests and skills in a potential career, or learn more about a field that interests you
  • Provide opportunities to explore and act on your values and beliefs
  • Learn more about social issues improve your understanding of diverse cultures and communities
  • Develop a professional network of people in your field or community
  • Build your resume

  • Internships at Keene State vary depending on your department. Some are part of course work, others are independent.  Check with your advisor or a faculty member in your program of study.
  • Look up internship opportunities on JobWISE. Login as a student to narrow your search by date, location, etc.
  • If you cannot find an internship through your department, get involved in other ways! See our Student Involvement pages for information on Community Service, Student Organizations, and Alternative Breaks.  Or contact Jessica Gagne Cloutier, Coordinator of Community Service for more information.
  • When registering, look for courses that include service learning in their description.
  • Contact Karen Balnis if you have questions about earning academic credit for your internship.
  • Learn what businesses are looking for in employees and interns. Attend the Career Speakers’ Series sponsored by our Corporate Relations office and Academic and Career Advising.
